Frequently Asked Questions

What if my Australian visa is expiring soon?

Your Australian visa must be valid when you check in for your New Zealand flight. If it expires before you leave for New Zealand, your NZeTA application will likely be declined. Consider renewing your Australian visa before applying for NZeTA.

Can I get an NZeTA if I'm only connecting through Australia?

No. You must have actually entered Australia on your visa. Simply connecting through an Australian airport does not qualify. You need to have physically been in Australia.

What if my passport changes or expires?

Your NZeTA is linked to your specific passport. If you renew your passport, get a new passport, or your current passport expires, you will need to apply for a new NZeTA with your new passport details.

Can I work in New Zealand on NZeTA?

No. NZeTA is for tourists, visitors, and business meetings only. If you want to work, you must apply for a New Zealand Work Visa through Immigration New Zealand.

How long does NZeTA processing take?

Standard processing takes 48-72 hours, with most applications approved within 24 hours. Express processing is available for urgent travel needs.

Is the Australia pathway permanent or temporary?

The special pathway for Chinese citizens traveling from Australia was introduced as a pilot program. Always verify the current status with Immigration New Zealand before planning your trip.
